Emergency Food - Pantry

No matter where your country belongs, 1st world, 2nd world or 3rd world, there is no place on Earth that is completely free from disasters and calamities such as heavy floods, hurricane, tsunami, earthquake, tornado, terror attack and storm. Preparing for these kinds of disasters and calamities is very important to increase you and your family's chances of survival. When these disasters happen, absence of electricity and gas and insufficient supply of food and water also follows. That's why early planning and preparation for these calamities and disasters are necessary. By preparing the necessary supplies and food little by little, you can stock at least a small amount of emergency foods that will be of great help when a calamity will hit your place.

Now what are the things that you need to know when storing emergency foods?

-If you are concerned that you don't have enough money to buy a lot of emergency supply food, you can start by buying only small number of emergency supply food or buy little by little quantity of emergency food and supply. It will just be complete over time if you make sure to buy every time you have extra money. Also don't forget to make sure that the foods that you will buy have longer shelf life.

-Always check the expiration date of the food you are storing. You don't want to store a food that will expire soon since it means you need to consume those foods in no time and buy again foods to store.

-Make sure that your pantry or the area where you store your emergency foods and supplies is cool, dry and clean. Aside from that make sure also that it is free from rodents and insects that possibly contaminate your emergency foods.

-Be sure to include potable water to be consumed by you and your family because the body needs water in order to live and survive.

-Try to avoid foods that are difficult to prepare, unhealthy and as much as possible those that require refrigeration. When you are in a calamity or emergency situation you don't have all the time in the world to cook your food. Also, choosing energy-providing and energy-boosting food is advisable to make sure that your body is well-provided with the energy it needs especially in emergency situations.

-Aside from emergency foods, make sure that you also store essential things needed during a disaster such as emergency medicines, battery, flashlights, blanket, emergency lights and matches.

-Age-appropriate foods should not be forgotten when storing emergency foods for you and your family. Be sure to include infant formula if you an infant in the family.

-Find time to check your stored emergency foods once in a while. You don't have to check very often but you have to check often enough to see if there are items that are about to expire and needs replacement and check to see if your stored emergency foods are still safe from contamination.

-Make sure to store emergency foods that will be sufficient for you and your family's consumption for at least a couple of days. When a disaster or calamity happens, there is a tendency that you will have difficulty finding food supplies for at least a couple of days. Storing enough food for your family for more than 72 hours will at least give you time where to find food supplies in case your food storage will not be enough.

Though it may take some time and money to make and prepare an emergency food and supply storage, it plays a big role in providing you and your family a bigger chance f surviving any emergency situations. Preparing and planning as early as possible will help you to have peace of mind knowing that you are somewhat prepared if ever an emergency situation happens.
