By Allyson Burke

There are limited sources of employment in the white collar industry. This has led to many people indulging themselves in agriculture. The most common practice in the field being chicken rearing. In the event that they are kept for meat, it could be very tiresome, expensive and time consuming to remove the feathers by hand. This led to the designing of a machine to help out the farmers. Due to its effectiveness, many of them have gone to learn how to make a chicken plucker.

There are many tools and equipment that are required to complete the process. Assemble them all together at the work station. Purchase and or borrow those that are not readily available from the local surroundings. Should there be any difficulty experienced while assembling them together, then a person with the desired experience is consulted. A single mistake could lead to the machines malfunctioning or even causing injuries to the users.

Since the process involves many potentially dangerous activities, it is advisable to have shielding garments for example gloves, welding glasses, an overall and so on. These will make sure that all the parts of the body are free from injuries. These shielding clothes should be put to use when using the machine to avoid stains from the feathers. A board cut to size is fit with a carpet on the sides and secured with small nails. This is where the motor is secured.

On another board make four holes that will provide support for the motor. This second board is attached to the first board made in step one. Once this has been achieved, the motor is put in place. Make sure that the piece of wood used is smooth. Remove the rough edges with a rudder or better still, use plywood.

Another smooth flat wood is cut to size and attached to the second. The corners are smoothed out at forty five degrees. Measure this very accurately. Since the motor is already fastened, put in place the electrical chest opposite the engine. The source of power, cord and switch are the joined together using a wire.

The equipment is now ready to insert the fingers. This is done from the inside towards the outside. The holes in which the fingers are put in are made close together, that is if the cap is small. They are put far apart if it is big. This is done all round and all the way to the top. Make sure that they are tightly fixed so that they do not come off during the process of plucking of the chicken.

At the bottom middle part of the cap, make a hole on which the lid will balance and go round properly. Using electricity and a welding machine, put in place the rod on the engine. At this point, make sure that the welding glasses are used to avoid any injuries to the eyes. Thereafter, the collar is mounted on the motor.

Many people have made this a source of their livelihood as these machines are on demand. They have mastered the skill of how to make a chicken plucker and made it an economic activity. However, the art is easy to learn from those who are conversant with the procedures.
