Outer Space Growth Of Organic Crops Is Probable

By Robert Sutter

I believe that organic crops are going to spring a number of different images to life, whether you believe this to be true or not. Most would take into account the idea of vast fields of green with soil that has to be taken care of. However, did you ever think about outer space being a possible location for growth to be seen? This is something that I did not think about until a recent story came to my attention. Now it seems like more and more is starting to make sense.

The Verge posted a story about the matter and it seems like NASA will attempt to make history thanks to the idea of growing food in space. It's the kind of report that has been able to earn the support of those involved in organic crops and rightfully so. I think that, come December when this launches, it could prove to be the best effort needed in order to save money. This particular story definitely deserves the attention of authorities along the lines of Colle Farmers Market.

The project in question is referred to as the Vegetable Production System and the way that it will be done could prove to be quite interesting. With six romaine lettuce plants set in place, each of them will grow under pink LED lights as opposed to the natural sunlight that most of us could associate with farming. Even though there is no gravity to speak of, it's been said that the plants will only need a month of growth each. The fact that this can be done regardless of such limitations is very telling, to me.

I never would have considered standard means to bring supplies to astronauts that expensive until I read what the article had to say. From what I have picked up on, it could cost $10,000 for there to be supplies transported. One has to wonder why such an expense is in place and if there really is a need for such a circumstance. I do not believe this to be the case, especially if the theory from NASA proves to be correct and the growth of food is made apparent.

When it comes to organic crops, I think most individuals would associate only a particular type of environment best suited for growth. However, it seems like there is much more to consider as far as this matter is concerned. The plans set in place by NASA are easily some of the most intriguing in terms of farming that I have ever seen. If this proves to be a success after December, I have to believe that the level of growth in general will be that much better.
