The clear liquid tapped out of young, green coconuts is called coconut water. Coconuts are the fruit from the coconut palm and are popular in many regions of the world, such as: Pacific Islands, tropics, Africa, Southeast Asia, Caribbean, Brazilian Coast and India. In these areas, the drink is readily available bottled, fresh or canned. There are numerous variations of the drink available and some might be curious to know what the best tasting coconut water is.

The best kind is subjective. It is a matter of personal preference and taste of a person consuming it. Coconuts used for drinking purposes are usually available packaged, served chilled or fresh at most restaurants and stores. There are street vendors who also sell these fresh, cutting the fruit open in front of customers using a machete or other knife. The drink might also be sold in plastic bottles, cans and tetra packs. When bottled, it is believed to be good for approximately 24 months.

More recently, this has been advertised as an all-natural energy or sports drink. This is because of its high potassium and mineral content. Marketers have been known to tout its low carbs, fat and calories. Still, there are claims that associate this drink with extensive health benefits that have not yet been proven.

Naturally this has a nutty, sweet taste. It features carbohydrates that are easily digestible. The water is at the fruit's center and tapped from green coconuts. It is different than coconut milk that is high in fat.

Generally, the drink is known for having less sodium and more potassium than traditional sports drinks. There are many manufacturers today who sell this product with added ingredients, which may make it less healthy than in its natural form. In fact, some of these drinks have more sugar than recommended and may not be healthy. This is why it is extremely important to read the labels and become familiar with manufacturers before trusting all marketing or ad campaigns.

People who like drinks that are sweet might not feel as though this alone is satisfying. Still, this and water are great for quenching the thirsty and giving the body the fluids that it needs for proper function. To some, the best tasting kinds are those that feature added sugar and other flavors. For others, the best is that which comes directly from a fresh coconut and includes nothing but the water itself.

Each individuals is expected to have his or her own thoughts on this drink. Still, most professionals that work in the medical field believe that it is best to drink this in a form that is closest to the natural state. This is essential for taking in all the potential benefits.

Those who do not enjoy coconuts might prefer not to have this drink, even though many say that it does not carry the same flavor as the fruit's meat. This can be diluted with water or mixed with fresh vegetables to make the taste subtle and change flavor. There are many options for making this drink more tasty that do not include using sugar or chemicals, which are known to be hard on the human body.
