How Elders Could Reap The Benefits Of Olive Oil

By Rob Sutter

When you start to climb up in terms of age, it seems like you have to keep better tabs on the things that you eat. Your diet is one of the most important aspects of your life, especially when you start to reach your 50's or 60's. These are the points where what you done in the past is going to impact you the most, the way that I see it. This means that you're going to have to build a diet with better components, the benefits of olive oil potentially being included.

I don't think that many people can say anything against the benefits of olive oil, especially when a much older audience is taken into account. The oil has a number of purposes and it can be done throughout cooking and even a simple dressing can prove to be quite useful as well. These methods will most definitely be the ones worth utilizing in the long run. Authorities like Flavor Your Life can tell you more about this strong component as well, the information proving to be valuable.

The Olive Oil Times recently posted a piece about a study which was shown in the Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics. The study consisted of 62 people and each of them fell into the age bracket of 65 and 96 years old; they would then go on to be placed into two groups. The control group would be able to keep up with their diet plans as normal while the alternate group had to ingest 50ml of EVOO on a daily basis. While this study was interesting enough, I wanted to see results.

This would continue for a little over one month until both groups returned. The results showed that the EVOO content which was ingested on a daily basis was able to successfully lower levels of cholesterol seen in such elders. However, the HDL levels were raised, which means that the "good cholesterol" did not have to be impacted in a negative fashion. Throw in the fact that antioxidants were at another high level and the benefits are ones which are able to be rounded out in their own ways.

The elderly have definitely reaped the benefits of olive oil but what can be done in order to make this an even greater success? It's been said that the Mediterranean diet is the best regimen for older folks to take up because of how many healthful properties come into play. Things like produce and lean meat all seem to come into tandem and the results are, to say the least, phenomenal. It's no wonder why this one is recommended for those who have to keep better tabs on their health.
