Some Favorite Scrambled Egg Seasoning

By Elena McDowell

Scrambled egg seasoning can transform a humble meal into something special. Instead of sticking with just salt and pepper, it is worth trying out other combinations of spices. There are also many different herbs that compliment the taste of eggs. Adding vegetables or cheeses and meats turns a simple dish into a satisfying meal that can be eaten not only at breakfast but any other time of the day too.

Scrambling eggs requires a gentle heat and enough butter to coat the pan. Once the butter is foaming, whisked eggs are added and a wooden spoon used to gently push the sides into the center of the pan. This is just one of the many different methods used to make these eggs but the aim is to achieve a light, fluffy texture instead of a rubbery appearance. Unless the eggs are cooked properly no amount of seasoning can redeem them.

Eggs taste delicious when given a spicy kick. Cayenne pepper or paprika can be used and only a small amount needs to be added to the eggs as the taste is strong. A tablespoon of salsa on the side is another way of adding a spicy taste. Diced green chillies are also an option.

The flavors of many herbs work well together with eggs. They may be chopped and sprinkled into the mixture or used for garnishing. Parsley and basil work well for garnishing. Many people enjoy the taste of garlic and this works well together with mixed herbs. If you are looking for an Italian flavor, add oregano and thyme and a slice of tomato.

Fresh vegetables may also be used to season eggs. Onions, mushrooms and chopped bell peppers provide color as well as contributing healthy anti-oxidants. Spinach works well too if it is sauteed or steamed first. Tomatoes, peppers and green onions make a good combination, especially when seasoned with some feta.

Eggs love most cheeses. They combine well and taste sensational together. Do not add cheese too early on in the cooking process or it will be stringy. Meat is another way to bump up the protein content of this meal even more. Bacon bits, ham and even sausage combine perfectly with the egg. Just remember not to add extra salt as these ingredients contain plenty of sodium.

Scrambling some eggs provides a simple, easy meal. However, adding certain ingredients can turn this humble meal into something that delights even the most discerning foodie. Some roasted red peppers, a few chopped olives or a touch of capers add that gourmet touch. Some combinations like smoked salmon and chives are sublime. A simple transformation is made by adding some cream cheese and garnishing with chopped green onions. Serve with an English muffin instead of toast and you will have a winner.

Eggs are relatively inexpensive, low in calories and high in protein. They are quick and easy to prepare. Scrambled egg seasoning is a key element to the taste and introducing the right herbs and spices can produce an amazing variety of different taste sensations from spicy and smoky to cheesy and creamy.
