Necessary Equipment For Home Brew Supply Production

By Teri Farley

A lot of people see home brewing as something very rewarding. Nothing really beats how fresh the beer produce is after using great ingredients and supplies. You get to create your own taste by mixing salts, finings, extracts, flavorings, hops, sugars and yeast with the use of hardware that can answer you needs and preferences. Creating home brew supply is best done with the use of high quality equipment.

First on the list is sanitation. Cleaning tools shall include washers for blast bottles, brushes, and brewing gloves. Bottle washers spray inside bottles, making it much easier to take out hard deposits. To remove organic deposits such as fermentation residue, special cleansers can be used. The best agents for cleaning are those that are tasteless and odorless. They must also not contain phosphates, organic compounds, bisulfites and chlorine.

When it comes to choosing brewing equipment, brewers would do best with stainless steel since this is a very durable material. Enamel pots tend to wear out quicker over time. Fermenters usually come made as plastic buckets, conical fermenters or glass carboys. Plastic buckets would be the best options although glass carboys may be easier to sterilize and clean.

Wort chillers may actually not be that necessary in brewing. However, they can help in cooling down wort faster and also contribute to deterring contamination and improving clarity. Wort chillers are made in different sizes and styles. Instead of getting plastic, stainless steel and copper would be the better options since these are better at conducting heat.

Measuring equipment can come as dial thermometers or hydrometers. These devices are used in measuring vital statistics of wort, beer and liquor. Measuring spoons, cups and scales can also be used in getting consistent grain and hop weights.

So your beer produce will be safe from infection and oxidation, opt for the use of racking equipment when transferring from a vessel to another. It would be best to opt for racking canes made of hard plastic or stainless steel so siphoning of liquids will be possible with minimum sediments. Auto siphons can be handy as well. They are combinations of tubes and racking canes that have to be pumped for the siphoning process.

When you are choosing a bottling bucket, go for one that has been equipped with a spigot or one made from food-grade plastic. You have easier time filling bottles with the use of filling wands, located at bottom parts in siphons. Choose a bottle cap that is heavy duty. It should not only be free standing but also bolted down. You might find it easier to opt for kegging though. Soda kegs tend to come more practical or convenient to use.

Brewing must be made using water that is free from chemicals such as chlorine. These should also have basic minerals. When using tap water, brewers should always boil the chlorine away. Barley malt extracts come in powder and syrup forms. Syrups are available at different strengths as well. When choosing hops, it should be kept in mind that the green, fresh ones are the best options.

Kitchen items may also be necessary in creating home brew supply. Among the most important tools are funnels that are used in transferring liquids and tongs used in removing hot straining bags. Whisks may also be necessities to aerate worts.
