Kiss The Cold Away With Gas Logs

By Miranda Sweeney

Winter days are lazy days and home is where you want to stay cuddled up. If only the fire does not need stoking so that you could really just lie there in the fireplace and not move a finger. Or does not need adding more woods and just continue on burning until winter ends.

It can happen because there is this substitute to firewood that is gaining popularity in the US. They are gas logs Dallas and they provide warmth just like real firewood but only requires a remote or switch to start the fire burning. There are two types though, vented and unvented.

Vented logs is the more realistic among the two types. It burns a yellow flame, typical with that of a wood fire burning. Also, there are glowing embers that add to the effect and that which makes it more realistic.

But this kind does not provide enough warmth for the house. Only ten percent of the heat is being directed to the house while the remaining ninety percent goes out of the chimney. That is why this type of log is good only for decorative purposes.

Meanwhile, unvented logs do not look real despite the yellow flame and glowing embers, but provides the warmth similar to that of a real fire. Ninety five percent of the heat goes inside the house. Imagine how warm is that compared to the ten percent of the vented type.

As vented logs represent the looks, the unvented represent the heat a real wood fire can provide. Although to provide warmth is the primary function of the unvented type, this can pose a threat to safety. Because of the degree of heat this log set is able to provide, any object that is capable of burning that is within the range of the set can potentially cause fire. Because of this, precautionary measures should be observed all the times.

Unvented types have sensor that monitors the level of oxygen in the room. If it drops to a dangerous level, the sensor will immediately cut off the power. This is in response to the threat where when turned on, it decreases the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere to drop, causing a difficulty in breathing, especially for asthmatic people. Aside from that, there is also an odor to deal with.

If you decide to have gas logs in your house, evaluate first your purpose so that you can choose what type to buy. If you want it to be decorative, just to add a feeling of reality to your fireplace, the vented type would be ideal. But if you want it to be functional, go with the unvented type where you can get as much heat as possible for your house.

With winter just round the corner, make sure you will be able to stay warm while sipping that cup of coffee and reading that good book, without disturbances. Just put the remote for the gas logs in the table next to you and you are ready for a cozy and relaxing afternoon ahead.
