Business Catering For Company Events And Meetings

By Dennis Cook

Companies hold so many different types of events - conferences, meetings, seminars, and customer appreciation functions are just a few of the more common gatherings. The groups of people who attend these all have one thing in common - they are hungry and they need to be fed, especially if the functions are more than a few hours long. Business catering is a booming business that is designed to provide meals and snacks to these individuals.

Any morning event is going to require several gallons of hot, fresh coffee with all of the additions that coffee drinkers require. Fresh fruit, rolls, and assorted juices will make an appealing continental breakfast. A full breakfast buffet could include eggs Benedict, breakfast potatoes, sausage and crisp bacon, and fresh biscuits with gravy.

Mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks will require much more coffee. Snacks can also be provided. These can consist of cookies, brownies, candy, and maybe hot and/or cold tea. This is an aspect of this type of catering that can be very creative. These breaks can have a theme that will feature specific foods.

Themes can consist of a movie theme where attendees enjoy hot, fresh popcorn straight from a popcorn machine, complete with various toppings such as butter, parmesan cheese, or sea salt. Boxed candies and sodas can also be offered. Or a luxury coffee station may be the main focus. Coffee, both regular and decaf, can be offered complete with flavored creamers and syrups, chocolate shavings, whipped cream and so much more.

Lunches for these events are usually buffets. These food offerings may have a theme such as a Mexican buffet, a fajita bar, deli buffet, salad line, or even choices of hamburgers and hot dogs with all of the accompaniments. The desserts offered are usually fairly simple so they can be brought back to the meetings if necessary. Cookies, brownies, and other pick-up type items are usually the normal offering.

Working lunches are also very popular. They are usually boxed lunches and can consist of far more than just a casual sandwich and chips. Whole grain bread, alfalfa sprouts, croissants, submarine buns, and many other variations are used to make these simple lunches as unique and interesting as possible.

As meetings and conferences come to a close, many companies like to provide refreshments for the attendees. These may consist of an open bar with beer, liquor, sodas, and wines. Another buffet meal may be provided or an appetizer selection displayed or passed. This is a great way to thank everyone for giving their time and attention to the matters discussed in these gatherings.

A caterer can find huge opportunities in this type of environment. Working these jobs is far easier and less stressful than putting on weddings and anniversary parties. They are more structured, less prone to changes, and are very repetitive. The individuals you deal with in planning these events are professionals who assist in organizing these type of functions on a regular basis.
