How To Cook Fava Beans Correctly

A large number of people in many countries regularly eat fava beans and they can be found in stores and supermarkets. Fresh produce such as the fava bean is high in protein and fiber as well as containing vitamin B. They taste very good when added to your hot dishes or when cold and added to a healthy salad. Preparing and cooking your produce is simple and you do not need any special equipment. A few simple pans and utensils are needed as well as some cold water and a cooker. After a little preparation time your fresh produce will be ready to eat or store.

If you decide to cook the dried variety then you will need to soak them in water overnight so that they are soft. When you have soaked the favas you will see that they have increased in size due to the fact that they will absorb some of the water. You can then place them in a pan and cover with cold water and bring to the boil and continue to cook for three to four minutes.

After boiling you should turn of the heat and allow the favas to soak for around one hour. The beans can then be carefully peeled before you return them to a saucepan of water and simmer for approximately forty five minutes. When the beans have simmered they can be drained and they will be ready to eat.

When you choose to prepare and cook fresh produce then some different techniques are needed. Pods will have to be opened and each been can be removed and added to a bowl containing ice cold water. You should then blanch the produce by adding it to a pan of boiling water for around thirty seconds. The beans can then be put back into the iced water to stop them from cooking and they can be peeled.

When you are ready to eat the fresh fava beans you should steam them until they are cooked and they can then be used in salads of added to your hot dishes. Steaming is an extremely healthy way of cooking food and it helps to keep all of the goodness in the produce. If you do not wish to eat straight away you can freeze the freshly cooked produce until you are ready to use it.
