Before anything else, it is very important to first take note of a few things with regard to catering in general. First of all, most people would have the misconception that catering is just serving meals in parties and other big events. Catering actually covers parties and also supplying food to certain institutions like the cafeterias of schools and offices.

When one starts out his training, he will first be trained to take orders. As he will be an intern during the start, he will be catering to the people in the event or institution where his company is serving. They say that in order for one to grow in any field, he has to first learn how to take orders from clients properly and know what they want otherwise he will not go higher in the chain.

While he is assisting his superiors, he will also learn the kinds of cuisines that exist around the world. One thing to remember is that employers usually get applicants who have some background or a degree in some form of culinary arts. There are quite a number of things to memorize which is why learning the theory part is quite important.

Aside from learning those things, one will also be learning all about style and presentation. Other than making really good meals, one has to also learn to make the end products look good to the eyes of the customer. Always remember that it is not always about taste but also about looks.

It is very important for one to also know how to assist the cook in whatever way possible. This does not only mean serving customers but also means learning how to cook and pretty much do all the legwork that the chef needs in order to prepare meals. This is one step closer to becoming a chef or a cook also.

Once one has already learned all of that, he may advance to becoming a cook. The cook not only cooks the food but also helps out in planning the menu of the company. Aside from that, the cook will also be in charge of the new entrants that are to help him with work.

Before one becomes a cook in the catering industry, one has to first start from the bottom and ascend to the top. This industry is a fast growing one which means there is room for growth. If one would want to enter, now is the best time.
