Organic Vegetables & Speaking Of John Hopkins

By Rob Sutter

When talking about the food options from school to school, it's clear that some have made greater changes than others. For example, there were quite a few elementary schools in New York City that have taken up more vegetarian options. It's clear that society is becoming more aware of the increased need to stay healthy, which is where I feel like organic vegetables and the sort have come into play. The same can be said about the recent changes made with John Hopkins University and there is quite a bit to talk about.

In recent times, John Hopkins University became one of the campuses that have put organic vegetables and fruit to use in great ways. The Baltimore Sun posted an article about this but I did not realize that there were so many different options as far as these crops are concerned. From what I have seen, 25 different types of crops can be offered, which is a tremendous point to say the least. The fact that JHU is looking to utilize only organic options by 2020 is worth noting by various authorities, Colle Farmers Market included.

As stated before, there have been other campuses that have gone about this type of shift as well. The report said that JHU is one of the 19 colleges in America to join the Real Food Challenge. What this entails is every school that participates has to be able to obtain, at least, 20 percent of its food from local growers by 2020. It's a strong challenge to make and it is one that a number of schools have decided to take up. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge linked to these crops that schools have picked up on.

If you want to know where your food comes from, it's clear that people require more than simply the location from where it was grown. You want to know that the best care was taken in order to clean these crops. Synthetic components, pesticides being one instance, are some of the most noteworthy and I think that these are the ones that have to be made. These, in my opinion, are why shopping options are so extensive and why they should be taken advantage of.

There are many different organic vegetables to consider, as you will pick up on. I believe that these crops are the best but the idea of attaining them is a point that may be easier for some than it will be for others. However, the fact that entire schools are promoting the usage of these crops is a point that is more than worth noting. Students have become exposed to these options and I think that said level of exposure is a point that can be carried through with later on.
