There are many restaurants competing to make the best food in Staten Island. Royal Crown Bakery is known for making enormous sandwiches, such as the chicken parmigiana hero. They also make cakes and bagels. Carol's Cafe is a local favorite, where the owner is also the chef. They offer typical American food like cheeseburgers and make their desserts on site.

If you want Vietnamese food, then you will want to go Pho Mac, it's the only restaurant of it's type in the borough. It's situated in the Bullshead area. The atmosphere is easy going and there is a take out service also. Children are accepted in the restaurant and they have street parking. There is no wheelchair access, unfortunately.

DaNoi Restaurant have two restaurants in Staten Island, serving cuisine from Northern Italy. The menu is reasonably priced with pasta dishes priced between $14 and $16 dollars. Their meat dishes are slightly more expensive, priced up to $27. The primary restaurant is tucked away on a side street and has a nice, intimate ambiance.

Shaffer's Tavern is probably number one for German food. They have an extensive range of sausage and beer. They offer specials as well as a soup of the day. It has a family feeling to it and has been owned by the same people for a long time. Their sandwiches cost around nine or ten dollars on average. Platters are slightly more expensive though.

There are many pizza restaurants to choose from. Joe & Pat's Pizzeria and Restaurant has been going since 1960. They are renowned for their thin crust pizza. They recently expanded by opening another restaurant in Manhattan. Denino's Pizzeria Tavern has also been open since the 1930s. The restaurant has been passed down through the generations of the family who own it.

There is only one Cajun-Creole restaurant on the island, creating the atmosphere of New Orleans. They provide jazz on Mondays and Thursdays, and tarot card readings during mid-week. There is a prefixed menu on most weekdays. It offers a 3 course meal for under twenty dollars. They have a broad selection of desserts as well, from chocolate pudding to cheesecake.

Filipo's Italian Restaurant is one of the more expensive places to eat. They offer antipasti from $11 and their pasta starts at $18. Some of their meat dishes are priced at $40. A catering service offered too, for people hosting parties. They often mark special occasions such as Father's Day by holding special events. In addition, Filipo's has a diverse selection of wines, from all over the world.

One of the best known Irish restaurants is Duffey's Tavern. They have a reputation for making great burgers, some even say they're the best in the city. It's located near the zoo, so it's easy for visitors to locate. They offer a choice of daily specials as well. The food is priced reasonably, most dishes costing between six and ten dollars. The burgers and sandwiches are served with potato chips and pickle. If you want fries though, you will have to pay more. Duffey's is certainly one of the restaurants serving the best food in Staten Island.
